When my troubling thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations comfort my soul. Psalm 94:19, TLV
STAR TREK, 1967, S2 EP15, THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES
Tribble Troubles. I live in my head. It’s helpful as an author, but can be detrimental to my emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Do you know what I mean? Today’s verse describes me a little too accurately. If left unchecked, my troubling thoughts will multiply.
Dealing With Troubles
Sometimes, I will talk out a concern and discover it isn’t as bad as I first thought. Other times, I’ll try to ignore it only to have it resurface like a stone after a rain, and cause me to stumble.
If I say: “My foot has slipped,”
Your mercy, ADONAI, will hold me up. (vs. 18, TLV)
The most effective way to keep my troubling thoughts from growing in size, multiplying, and mutating inside my mind and imagination is to simply seek His counsel. His comfort. I say it’s simple, but it can be anything but easy. Why? Probably because we think we can or should be able to figure out everything.
So, do we go to our Heavenly Father for every little
thing? Maybe. If you’re like me where troubling thoughts multiply like tribbles*, my brain is so occupied with sorting things, I forget that my Dad is right there ready to comfort my soul.
Yes, comfort my soul. How about you?
Think More About It
How do you deal with troubles that seem to multiply?
May we seek our Father’s wisdom, my friends.
Pray for Israel—Prayer Prompt
Why does the wicked one revile God?
He says in his heart:
“You will never require anything.”
You saw—for You see trouble and grief,
to take it in Your hand.
The victim puts his trust in You—
You are the helper of the orphan. Psalm 10:13-14, TLV
Yes, Abba, You see trouble and grief. Please, Father, take it in Your hand for Your people put their trust in You. Amen.
God bless you.
*What are Tribbles? Tribbles are a fictional alien species in the Star Trek universe. They were conceived by screenwriter David Gerrold and first appeared in 1967, in the fifteenth episode of the second season of The Original Series, titled “The Trouble with Tribbles”. They are depicted as a small, furry, gentle, cute and slow-moving, but rapidly reproducing, lovable species. Tribbles become trouble when one feeds a Tribble. Feeding the furry creature causes it to reproduce—exponentially. Kind of like worry.
