If we say we have fellowship with Him and keep walking in the darkness, we are lying and do not practice the truth. 2 John 1:6, TLV
Walk it Out. The writer of these epistles — most likely the apostle John — is addressing real concerns within the local communities of believers in the Ephesus area (modern western Turkey). He refers to these communities in the feminine: lady, sister. Perhaps in reference to the Bride of Messiah.
Regardless, the issues are serious. False teachers have infiltrated the believers preaching that while Yeshua was on this earth, He was not divine and that their immoral behavior didn’t constituted as sin. Some scholars postulate that these was either a form of or fully Gnosticism — which taught that matter was evil and that salvation came through secret knowledge. How evil is that! Talk about walking in darkness.
Simple, yet true
Jesus’ teachings were simple and could be boiled down to: Love God, love each other. No secret. Divine knowledge comes through the Holy Spirit and walking out God’s word, every single day. Walking that understanding in love and gratitude. Because without love, we’re just noise (1 Corinthians 13:1).
If one wants a thorough and practical course in walking out the Torah (the Law), begin with reading what is known as the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5-7). Then read a chapter of Proverbs each day for nitty gritty wisdom and understanding of how to journey this faith path.
The best way to stay away from evil is to live in the Light. Walk it out and see.
Shabbat shalom!
