Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:24, TLV
Weed Out Worry. This is another verse where context is important. In this chapter, Jesus talks about people who love appearing impressive and righteous. He warns that these folks may indeed impress others, but He will not be impressed. What will be meaningful to our Heavenly Father is a heart that doesn’t worry about impressing others — doesn’t fret what others might think of them — but is more concerned about the state of their relationship.
Worry sneaks into our lives in so many ways, doesn’t it? From people-pleasing, to what we’ll wear, to our health, our loved ones, whether we’ll have enough food to feed our children, worry chokes the life out of our faith. Worry chokes the life out of our love and joy.
If you’ve ever done gardening, you know that it is always best to weed each day. Otherwise, the weeds will strangle our veggies or flowers. When we know our plants so well we can spot the weeds, we pull them to protect our plants. Then they will grow and thrive and bear fruit.
When we’re able to recognize worry in all its forms, when we daily seek to yank it from our thoughts and language, then our righteous efforts will have more of an opportunity to prosper. Our faith will grow because we know we are in good hands, no matter what things look like.
Each day will have its own trouble, but remember our Messiah has overcome the world.
