Daily Word: What Does the Secret Place Look Like? Proverbs 5:1

My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Incline your ear to my insight… Proverbs 5:1, TLV

What Does the Secret Place Look Like?     I love the imagery of today’s proverb. “Incline your ear…” This image depicts a sense of intimacy. To trust the speaker enough to lean closer and pay attention. Like a father speaking life-giving wisdom to his child.

For me, the image invokes a noisy room of people. All manner of conversations fill the space. Arguments about politics. Advice about the newest technology. Bragging rights for the successful return on investments. A cacophony of words and emotions.

But then, off in a corner, two people speak of life-changing subjects. One is wise, the other eager to listen. The listener doesn’t want to miss a single word, so they step closer, lean in, and listen carefully.

Sigh. That, my friends, is the best image I know for our Secret Place.

The Secret Place . . .

It’s that moment of connection. That time and place where we separate ourselves from the distractions. Where we purposefully step closer and incline our ear to whatever our Heavenly Father wants to share with us. In other words, we pick up that Bible, find a quiet place, read, and wait to hear what His Holy Spirit will tell us. Listen.

When we pay attention, when we incline our ear, each day, we will receive wisdom and insights we’ve never known or understood. We will know our Heavenly Father even better and sense His heart in the most amazing ways. Because the Secret Place is all about connection to Him.

I think of Peter, when he had this profound insight that only could have happened in that Secret Place. In the midst of disappointment and fear, it was that moment of trust.

Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life!” John 6:68, TLV

Who else has the words of eternal life? Of healing? Of hope? Of wisdom? Of the tools for an abundant life? Only One has it. Let’s incline our ear, my friends.

Think More About It

How do you find your Secret Place?

Until tomorrow, may we incline our ear and pay attention to our Father’s words, my friends.

Praying for Israel

Give ear, O God, to my prayer
and do not ignore my plea for help.
Listen to me and answer me.
I am restless in my complaint and moan—
because of the voice of the enemy,
because of the pressure of the wicked.
For they thrust trouble on me,
and in anger bear a grudge against me. Psalm 55:2-4, TLV

Sometimes we just need to be real, yes? We can sometimes feel God is ignoring us. Or we feel restless in our fear and the attacks against us maybe physically, but mostly emotionally. How about Israel—and our brothers and sisters there? As we pray for Israel and those who feel the pressure of wickedness, let’s remember that there are no “whoops” or “uh ohs” with God. He has seen each day from before time and He knows how this will end.

So, as we pray in our Secret Place for Israel, let’s remember Yeshua’s instructions to pray, “[Father], Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Amen? God bless you.
