A discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly. Proverbs 15:14, TLV
Where Did the Time Go? I must confess, I enjoy cat videos. And puppy videos. Okay, and baby videos. I even saw a catfish that hung on to the edge of a fishing boat drinking beer. When I worked fifty to sixty hours a week in the nonprofit world, a few minutes of mindless silliness gave my brain a chance to rest before jumping back into my responsibilities.
Now that I spend most of my day on my computer writing, the temptation to toggle over to those videos — oh, especially the daddy/mommy returning from overseas — to entertain myself is great. I would venture an opinion that it’s possible to watch these vignettes of other people’s lives all day long.
As I age — and apparently, according to the CDC, I’m elderly — I’m more aware of how precious time is. The quality of each moment is dependent upon what I “feed” on. Do I hunger for wisdom and knowledge? Then, I must feed on the ingredients that make up these attributes.
Being purposeful with my time is not easy, and sometimes GOD must remind me that rest and recreation are also components to my wisdom journey.
The best way to begin a quality day is to choose to hear from GOD. In the quiet of our heart and mind, we can listen to/for:
- profound insights
- wisps of truth He will one day reveal in full
- conviction
- forgiveness
- healing
- spending time with the precious people He puts in our lives
- these and more await us when we take the time to sit down and dine with Him.
As our day rolls out, there will be many choices of how to use our time. May we choose wisdom and knowledge, my friends.
