” . . . There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved!” Acts 4:12, TLV
Yeshua Means Salvation. Literally. The name most know as Jesus was not what He was called when He was on this earth. Yeshua is the root of the word salvation. In English, Yeshua would have been called Joshua. There are no “Js” in Hebrew or Aramaic.
So what?
Why is it important to know His name? Because it is scattered throughout Scripture as Yeshua or Yehoshua over two hundred times. “Yeho” was sometimes at the beginning of a proper name, perhaps giving the name a type of title or meant some importance. Symbolically, the name Yehoshua/Yeshua/Jesus conveys the idea that God (YHVH or ADONAI) delivers or saves (His people).
“She will give birth to a son; and you shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21, TLV)
Names have always been important to our Heavenly Father. What people call our children is important to us. But when the name has a holy purpose — like salvation or deliverance — there’s just something about His Name. Yeshua.
Still . . .
If I haven’t so offended you that you stopped reading, then let me say this to all who say Jesus in praise and worship with great love and affection. Praise the LORD!
My nephews Jordan and Joshua when they were children addressed my mom — their grandmother — as “Mucka.” Jordan came up with the name, I’m not sure how, but it stuck. For years that what was they called her. The first, “Mucka, I love you” melted my mom’s heart.
As adults, they now call her grandma, but I think my mom sometimes misses the love and uniqueness of Mucka. No other grandmother had that name, at least that we know of.
So, whether you call our Messiah and Savior, Yeshua or Jesus, say it with joy and gratitude. Because not only does Yeshua love to hear His Name, but His Father loves when we speak it, too. And He knows our hearts.
