Is it a diversion?
TODAY’S PROVERB: Do not turn to the right or to the left. Divert your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27
I love flying at night. It’s a vivid perspective of just how small we really are.
Looking at the expanse of the sky with its stars is peaceful, stable. Gazing below at the man-made lights that glow with seemingly brighter intensity may seem to eclipse the sky’s lights.
But, that glow is temperamental. Subject to the frailties of humanity and technology, and believe it or not, dependent upon the grace of God.
This verse reminds me that until we rise above our humanity, we’ll be diverted from the bigness of the Creator of the Universe.
It seems our world offers a plethora of distractions. They don’t have to be evil, they simply have to be distractions that lead to diverting us from God’s calling and purpose in our life. Like the bright city lights, they can drown out the still, small pinpricks of true light from the stars. Until we rise above.
What are some of the distractions that can divert us from His calling?
- Busyness
- Poor Health
- Jobs
- Technology
- Entertainment
- Good ideas vs. God’s ideas
- Temptations
- Exhaustion
- Opportunities
How do we avoid these interferences in our walk? Especially when some of these “distractions” are part of life or unavoidable? Or they seem like God’s direction?
We rise above. We seek, find, and abide in the Sacred Place with our Heavenly Father. Taking time to center ourselves in His will gives us peace and clarity. Studying, meditating, and then living His word helps us silence the world’s voices that divert us from truth.
Allowing His Holy Spirit to work His wisdom into how we discern and understand will give us the ability to just say “no” to the diversions and “yes” to His direction.
When we purposefully set our mind on seeking our Abba in that Secret Sacred Place, the distractions of this world will slip into oblivion — at least for a little while. And, sometimes that’s all we need to revive and return to the path. Walk a bit further. Be a bit wiser. And that’s a good thing.
May we rise above, my friends.
