Wisdom’s Journey: Proverb 2:7

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Today’s Blog: What’s in Your Pantry?

TODAY’S PROVERB: He stores up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity. Proverbs 2:7, TLV

One of the greatest inventions for the home — in my opinion — is the kitchen pantry. For the home cook, it’s our storehouse. Want to make a pot of chili? Open that pantry door and pull out cans of beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Saute a chopped onion in olive oil and there is the base for a delicious meal.

So, I love the analogy of our Heavenly Father storing up wisdom for us to pull from. Knowing what is available to us is important, otherwise we’ll search for “ingredients” outside His storehouse. Maybe even using the wrong ingredients.

When we face a challenge or need to make a wise decision, the only wisdom we want is what’s in our Father’s storehouse. We won’t know what that is unless we know what He’s made available to us.

I was thinking more about this — carrying my pantry analogy a bit further — and thought about the fact that I need to organize my home storehouse periodically. If I don’t, then I have difficulty finding what I need, or even remembering what I have. By knowing my inventory of goods — or in this case of wisdom — I can access what I need for any given situation.

How do we keep our wisdom storehouse organized? To know what’s in our inventory?

Repetition

Repetition — reading that chapter of Proverbs each day. As we meditate and learn our daily portion of wisdom, we add to our “storehouse.” We also assess our current inventory. Over time, those lessons become more and more a part of our understanding, a part of our storehouse of knowledge and wisdom. When we have a problem, we know just where to find God’s solution.

It sounds simple, doesn’t it? Actually, applying the discipline to integrate Proverbs into our life each day is tougher than it seems. Especially if we have the wisdom to do it for the rest of our future.

A storehouse of wisdom. It’s pretty amazing when we think about it, isn’t it? And while we’re thinking about it, how about saying thanks. Thanks, Dad!

May our storehouse be full of all the ingredients for an abundant and successful life, my friends.
