Today’s Blog: Glass House?

TODAY’S PROVERB: The righteousness of the blameless man makes his way straight; but the wicked man is brought down by his wickedness. Proverbs 11:5, TLV

As we begin the next round of elections, we all cry out for transparency. We want to be able to trust our elected officials and the only way — we say, loudly — is for everyone to tell the truth. Yet, how are we doing in that department? Are we blameless in walking the straight path of truth?

In my November 5th blog I revealed something I did in third grade, that to this day makes me squirm. Being transparent isn’t always easy.

In today’s proverb I’m reminded of the saying, “People who live in glass houses have to answer the door.” In other words, if what we do could be seen by all, at any time, we probably wouldn’t do half the things we do.

It’s in the concealing of our actions or motives that complicates — dirties up — our lives. A lack of transparency diverts us from a straight path because we’re always avoiding things and people that may reveal what we hide.

Ironically, the One we hide from the most is the One who sees clearly.

As the campaigns on all the media continue, and as the arguments and debates on social media clog our newsfeeds, may we remember that as we seek transparency in others, we should also find it in ourselves.

“Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the beam in your own eye?”

JESUS, MATTHEW 7″3. TLV

May our hearts be transparent, my friends.
