Teaching like a trickle of rain . . .
TODAY’S PROVERB: …to acquire wisdom and discipline, to understand the words of insight, to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice and fairness… Proverbs 1:2-3
It’s time to roll back the scroll for April. We begin another round of Proverbs with:
- new revelations,
- reminders of how to walk wisdom’s journey, and
- new insights that apply to new seasons in our life.
April is such a lovely part of Spring. A time of new growth and rebirth. It reminds me of this beautiful passage in Moses’ song:
May my teaching trickle like rain,
my speech distill like dew—
like gentle rain on new grass,
like showers on tender plants. Deuteronomy 32:2
Don’t you love the image? Gentle rains. Showers on tender plants. That’s how I think of the repetitive nature of reading the Proverbs. Wisdom’s teaching is distilled and comes to us little by little, over and over. Just as those gentle showers nurture the new plantings and cause them to grow up strong, continuing to read Proverbs nurture our spirit and cause us to grow up strong.
So, as we begin again in Proverbs, I pray that you’ll feel the gentle showers on your heart, and may the Holy Spirit continue to give you new revelations, reminders of how to walk wisdom’s journey, and new insights that will apply to this season of your life.
May we roll back the scroll, my friends.
