Today’s Blog: Yay! It’s my Favorite Word!
TODAY’S PROVERB: The wisdom of the prudent is to consider his way, but the folly of fools is deception. Proverbs 14:8
I love this word: prudent. If you’ve been reading my blogs over the years, you’re already aware of this fact. Prudence is an old-fashioned word. But, I think we need prudence, especially these days. What does a prudent person look like? A prudent person is someone who acts with or shows a thought for the future.
A prudent person exercises patience. They don’t seek immediate gratification. They know that working hard to sow means there will be a wait before there is a harvest. It may take weeks, months, or years before they can reap.
Prudence means being silent and watchful even and especially when around them is chaos. They assume more information will be needed in order to make a wise decision — they don’t assume they know everything — which is why they avoid many of the troubles others experience. People may think they’re “lucky” when in reality they are prudent.
Hubby and I have been called lucky because his company had retirement benefits. There’s no question we’re grateful that company had benefits, but it would have been impossible for Bob to retire early had we not used prudence. The reality is we scrimped and did without for over thirty years to put money away for the future.
Would it have been nice to have that extra money — especially during the lean years? Of course, but we’re so grateful today we were prudent.
Perhaps you’re wondering if pursuing that advanced degree is worth the time and expense. Or you’re wondering if buying that new car is the right decision. Pray and ask the LORD what is the prudent decision. He knows the answer.
May we walk in prudence, my friends.
