TODAY’S PROVERB: The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Adonai, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. Proverbs 15:8, TLV

Our proverb today is one of those scary passages of the Bible. Do you know what I mean? Verses that make us sit a little straighter? Cause us to examine our heart?

Today’s proverb reminds me of Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, and drive out demons in Your name, and perform many miracles in Your name?’ Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Get away from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’”

Yikes.

In this proverb it is about the person who is dedicated to the Temple sacrifices. In the Matthew reference, it refers to those who “perform” great acts of supernatural gifts. In both cases, He won’t recognize them as one of His own.

Why? Because GOD can see into our heart.

We can never fool the LORD into thinking a righteous deed is the same as a righteous heart.

Here’s the thing, our Heavenly Father knows His own Son, and if Yeshua isn’t in our heart — if we aren’t wearing His robe of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10; Zechariah 3:3-3-10) — then Abba doesn’t care how good the deed. If Yeshua doesn’t know that poor soul, then the Father won’t recognize them either.

The most comforting fact is that we don’t have to be perfect for Yeshua to recognize us — for the Father to accept us. It’s not about our performance — it’s about what Jesus did for us. And that’s a good thing.

May our heart be His, my friends.
