Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 1:7

Today’s Blog: It’s time to Roll Back for more!

TODAY’S PROVERBS: The fear of Adonai is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7, TLV

It’s time to roll back the scroll! For some of our readers, this is your first time to begin again in Proverbs chapter 1. For others — well, we couldn’t begin to guess how many times this is for us. Regardless, our Heavenly Father will have something new to show us, help us dig into more insights, and remind us of truths we’ve forgotten.

Roll Back the Scroll!

But then again, all of Scripture should be treated this way, don’t you think? For thousands of years, the Jewish people read the entirety of the what Christians know as the “Old Testament” every year — and religious Jews continue today. Each year in the Fall, the last day of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles), the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy) scroll is rolled back to Genesis.

Then, each week a portion — parsha — of the Torah is read, which becomes the foundation for studying the rest of Scriptures — the Writings and Prophets. Because the Torah is the foundation of the whole of the Bible, including the “New Testament.”

Why is this important? There are critical moments in the life and ministry of the coming Messiah that are signs that Jesus was who He said He was.

Imagine this scene

“And He came to Natzeret, where He had been raised. As was His custom, He went into the synagogue on Shabbat, and He got up to read. When the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him, He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
‘The
Ruach Adonai [Holy Spirit] is on me,
because He has anointed me
to proclaim Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
and to proclaim the year of
Adonai’s favor.’
He closed the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue were focused on Him. Then He began to tell them, ‘Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.’”

YESHUA (JESUS) READING THE SCROLL OF THE PROPHET ISAIAH, LUKE 4:16-21, TLV

Doesn’t that give you goosebumps! The designated portion from the Torah had included that portion of Isaiah for that Sabbath! For thousands of years! Not Jeremiah. Not Hosea. Those verses in Isaiah.

Imagine your life . . .

There are important, pivotal moments in our life. Those moments that may seem small or insignificant, but the Holy Spirit is pointing us in a new direction. How do we discern that? By honing our wisdom muscles. Because wisdom includes knowledge, understanding, and discernment. The more we allow the Spirit to teach us through Proverbs, the more we learn from the entirety of the Bible.

So, roll back the scroll, my friends. See what new treasures our Father has for us. And, I’m looking forward to joining you on Wisdom’s Journey.

May we roll back the scroll, my friends.
