Today’s Blog: An “Ouch” Proverb
TODAY’S PROVERB: Blows that wound scour away evil; and beatings purge the innermost being. Proverbs 20:30, TLV
Here’s one of those “ouch” proverbs. Let’s face it, sometimes the lesson we must learn is painful — really painful. We sure wish all our lessons were more like: “Oh, right, I need to not do that.” Or “I do need to do that.”
But, there are times when our Heavenly Father has made multiple attempts to get through to us, and we either have missed those attempts, or ignored the lesson. Because He loves us, He won’t give up. Even if it hurts us.
Over the years, I’ve implemented a valuable method of retaining the lesson. After learning the point of GOD’s message — and once the sting is over — if I review the lesson, I can usually see those missed opportunities. I can see the context of His wisdom and discipline and better let it assimilate into my heart. It’s this process that aids in sealing the lesson in my heart and reminds me yet again of our Father’s love for me.
If you are a journal-er, logging those insights also help to make those lessons relevant. There’s just something about writing it down that helps us remember (Habakkuk 2:2). Which means we hopefully don’t have to learn again — the hard way. And then, we can help others.
May we learn quickly and well, my friends.
