Today’s Blog: What does a slacker look like?

TODAY’S PROVERB: A slacker will not plow in season, so at harvest he looks but finds nothing. Proverbs 20:4, TLV

What does a slacker look like? I think of a slacker as an intelligent lazy person. Slackers can get lost in their own mental pursuits and then blame their failures on circumstances. How does that typically manifest?

If we look at wisdom’s characteristics, we can gain insights into the struggles of a slacker and perhaps help them:

  • Wise people abide in the present, but employ prudence in planning for the future.
    • Slackers can’t see past their needs for today and get lost in the worry of the future.
  • Discerning people know that some goals are worth the effort and wait.
    • Slackers want what they want today and get frustrated and quit when it takes too long to achieve their goal.
  • Knowledgeable people take time to learn how to achieve goals wisely and with integrity.
    • Slackers don’t read the instructions.
  • People with understanding are not afraid of failure because they are wise enough to know failures provide valuable lessons.
    • Slackers won’t try, because they’re afraid to fail.

Our Heavenly Father’s gift of wisdom can change our lives and draw us closer to Him. This gift shows us how to live out His word with honor and joy. Each day we can harvest new insights into our heart, behaviors, goals, and faith journey.

Every day has a new harvest in our life.
