Today’s Blog: Drip, Drip, Drip
TODAY’S PROVERB: Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, will also cry out but not be answered. Proverbs 21:13, TLV
There are many cries from the poor these days, aren’t there? CoVid-19, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, fires — the needs are so great. In fact, they’re overwhelming, so overwhelming it’s just easier sometimes to say we’ll pray and shut out the pleas.
But, the LORD says we can’t shut our ears or eyes. Yet, we can’t help them all. So, what do we do? How can our few dollars help? How can our sack of groceries make a difference?
The Leaky Faucet Method
Have you ever had a leaky faucet? Did you know a leaky faucet left unattended can waste up to ten gallons per day! Just a few drops every once in a while. After a year, we lose 3,600 gallons, roughly $20.
When I was a child, the Sunday School I attended gave each kid a Mite Box. Based on the story of the widow’s mite (Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-4) we would put our pennies, nickles, dimes, and the occasional quarters into that box. Then, during a special service, all the children brought in their boxes and dumped them into a large container.
The next week the results of the collection were announced. I don’t remember the amounts, just that I was in awe that what I thought was insignificant, together with others’ “insignificance” was a miracle. Almost like the loaves and fishes story (Matthew 14:13-21; Matthew 15:32-39; Mark 6:34-44; Mark 8:1-9; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-13).
Our “drops” of support may seem insignificant, but over time, with others who give their drops, we can make a difference. And, perhaps our Savior Yeshua (Jesus) would perform a loaves and fishes miracle, too.
