Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 23:23

What are you acquiring?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Acquire truth and do not sell it, acquire wisdom, instruction and understanding. Proverbs 23:23

Our Heavenly Father encourages us to acquire — to invest in — truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding. They might seem inexpensive, but in reality, they cost us a lot. They are the true gold, silver, and precious stones. All else is wood, hay, and straw. Why? These treasures are vital to advancing and building up of God’s Kingdom here on earth.

For no one can lay any other foundation than what is already laid–which is Yeshua the Messiah. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear. For the Day will show it, because it is to be revealed by fire; and the fire itself will test each one’s work—what sort it is. If anyone’s work built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 1If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss—he himself will be saved, but as through fire.

1 CORINTHIANS 3:11-15

Possessions like vehicles, homes, clothes, jewels, purses, sunglasses — oh, did I say that? — are but dross in the overall scheme of things. Ironically, many consider them evidence that we’re doing things right in God’s eyes. The more we’re “blessed” with things, the more of God’s favor we must have. That’s cockeyed thinking.

Our Father’s most precious commodities anyone can acquire and keep, and give away without loss. Because, in His economy these treasures produce an eternal return on investment. And that’s a good thing.

May we acquire God’s riches, my friends.
