Today’s Blog: We Can Be Rescuers

TODAY’S PROVERB: Rescue those being dragged off to death, hold back those stumbling to slaughter. Proverbs 24:11, TLV

This verse reminds me of heroes. Not the caped wonders, or members of the Avengers or Justice League. These are real-life heroes — men and women — who save lives everyday. Thank you to those First Responders! Especially those who step up when others can’t or won’t — when their own lives are at peril with the COVID-19 virus.

Still, there are other “rescuers” out there. People we probably don’t consider as heroes. Those who truly “hold back those stumbling to slaughter.” They rescue souls from the claws of death all around the world. They are those who share the Good News.

Ordinary citizens like you and me can do extraordinary feats because we serve an extraordinary GOD.

I remember the first time I shared the Good News with a friend of a friend — someone I had never met. I was awkward and nervous. She willingly, enthusiastically grasped Yeshua’s hand and turned away from her old life — not because of my finesse, that’s for certain.

Within days, she was a “rescuer” to her husband and children. That was over 40 years ago, I can only imagine the lives that family has impacted.

Have you ever . . .

Have you shared in the joy of someone being born again? Like me, some may feel intimidated. I’ve always admired those with the gift and anointing for evangelism, but we’re all called to be able to share the gospel when called upon.

Second Timothy 4:2 instructs us to: proclaim the Word! Be ready when it is convenient or inconvenient. Confront, rebuke, encourage — with complete patience and instruction.

We begin by truly knowing who we love and serve. How can we share what or who we don’t know? That means being in the word of GOD.

Next, live the life of a Jesus follower. People should know we’re different before we ever utter a word about Him.

Then, and this may sound strange, but go online and watch how others share this eternal life message — some are done in 90 seconds. Just stick to the Bible-believing sites like Billy Graham ministries and Jews for Jesus.

Practice it. Live it. Love it. Then, speak it.

Can we “rescue” while social distancing?

How about we all agree to be willing vessels for the LORD during this season of social distancing and/or quarantine. He may provide opportunities through social media, in front of bare shelves in a grocery store, or masked in a doctor’s waiting room. Watch for those souls “stumbling to slaughter.” We could be the “rescuer” who offers the lifeline of Yeshua’s atonement and salvation. Yes, us.

May we all be rescuers, my friends.
