Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 24:19

Today’s Blog: Revenge? Righteous Indignation? What’s an Offended Person to Do?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Do not say, “I will do to him what he has done to me; I will pay him back for his deed!” Proverbs 24:29, TLV

We’ve all felt it. That overwhelming sense of righteous indignation when someone offends or hurts us — or someone we care about. The “How dare you!” moment that triggers emotions, which triggers the fight or flight. Either one, if not dealt with, shifts our thinking into those vain imaginations.

For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly but powerful through God for the tearing down of strongholds. We are tearing down false arguments and every high-minded thing [vain imaginations] that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Messiah—

2 CORINTHIANS 10:4-5, TLV

All those emotions and plans for warfare or revenge are understandable. Understandable, but not for us to play around with. Our Heavenly Father sets a different standard for us. He is about grace and mercy — and aren’t we grateful about that.

Whatever battles that transpire don’t involve the person, but the evil that motivates them. And, one more biggie: Revenge is His — not ours. (Deuteronomy 32:35, Romans 12:19)

Sometimes when that injury happens, I try to picture myself leaving the offense “outside” to enter my Sacred Place of Grace with my Abba.

In this Place I can cry, get angry, and tell Him how unfair it was. Then, I allow Him to comfort me, point me toward forgiveness, and how I can proceed. It’s a place of healing and revelation. Whether letting it go or confrontation, getting GOD’s solution is always the best plan.

As long as we live in this world, there will be a tempest of sin and hurt. Let our loving Father “hug” us through these trials so that we can emerge whole and wiser for the experience.

May we take those hurts and offenses to our Sacred Space with our Heavenly Daddy, my friends.
