Today’s Blog: Where is Your House Built?
TODAY’S PROVERB: By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is prepared, and by knowledge its rooms are filled with every rare and pleasing treasure. Proverbs 24:3,4 TLV
Several years ago, I came across this passage while sitting in a hospital room with my mother. It was day 3 or 4 and I hadn’t been home to shower and wash my hair because my mother was waiting for doctor’s approval to proceed with a stent in her heart. It had been a scary couple of days, but they had done a good job stabilizing her enough for the procedure.
As I meditated on these verses, it caused me to pause. More than anything I wanted to be home with my husband — who had had a heart attack a few weeks earlier. Ironically, we had just built a new home that I love. Still, I knew that I should be content no matter where I was, right? How could I do that?
Pay attention to the blessings and beauty around me, even in a hospital.
So, I breathed, looked around me, and noticed:
- My mom resting comfortably after a sponge bath wearing a brand new silky nightgown I found in the gift shop.
- The beautiful flowers my hubby purchased.
- Sunshine through the windows.
- The peaceful quiet as mom napped.
If I chose to, I could be content where I was. Even if it wasn’t everything I wanted.
When we have a life and home built by GOD’s wisdom, it doesn’t matter where our physical home is, our spiritual home is where He is. He will build it wherever we are. And because He’s always with us, we carry that treasure with us. Pretty amazing.
May we reside contently, wherever we are, my friends.
