Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 24:6

Today’s Blog: Who are your counselors?

TODAY’S PROVERB: For with wise advice you wage war and in many counselors there is victory. Proverbs 24:6, TLV

We’ve all had them. Perhaps you’re in the midst of one now. A great war — a battle that seems hopeless. Especially during this season, there are precious souls who struggle with depression from the loss of loved ones, loneliness, being away from home. Others with financial woes that seem insurmountable.

But, we are not alone. Our heavenly Father is with us. Because of the blood of the Lamb, Yeshua [Jesus] intercedes on our behalf. And within us, a piece of the Creator of the Universe — His Spirit — lives in us.

Does that mean that will always be enough? Sometimes, it’s not. But, our Abba saw our need for that, too. His other kids — us — are here to support one another.

Depending upon the war/battle, we may need a group of counselors. Wise, mature, and experienced followers of Jesus. Ultimately, the decision to follow their counsel is between us and our Father, but having others with different perspectives can change the course of a war.

The types of counselors:

  • Those generals who have fought similar battles — and came out victorious. Seek their insights. Listen. Learn. Glean what is relevant to what the Holy Spirit may be tell us.
  • The strategist who has both wisdom and discernment — who advises, but does not order us what to do. If you have a strategist in your life, you are blessed. Again, listen, learn, and glean.
  • A reconnaissance intercessor who “sees” in the heavenlies and prays accordingly. The prayer warrior sometimes “sees” from a perspective that we can’t see because we’re in the midst of the battlefield. An experienced intercessor may give counsel, but mostly they will simply tell you what they “see.”
  • The foot soldier who isn’t afraid to fight right along your side. They may not understand the battle, but they will fight with you. Some may be experienced soldiers and accustomed to the rigors of battle. Others may be new, but will learn as we do. Use discernment as to who we want with us.

We aren’t alone. Whether our counselors are many or echad — The One — we don’t have to fight by ourselves.

May we rest in knowing, we are not alone, my friends.
