Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 26:10

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

How do you hire?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Like an archer who wounds at random is one who hires a fool or any passer-by. Proverbs 26:10, TLV

The first twelve verses of this chapter speak of the folly of fools. Several verses speak of the folly of employing a fool. If you’ve ever managed people — done the hiring and firing — you know it’s sometimes difficult to spot an unwise person, initially.

In fact, there are those folks who can mimic wisdom at first, but it won’t be long before their true abilities show.

Those who seek after wise things are not the same as those who seek after the Author of wisdom. This applies to us, too.

Choosing to hire a “fool” or “warm body” will cause problems at work and eventually disrupt unity and harmony within the ranks.

How do we hire the right person? There are a lot of great resources out there. I liked this guy. Simple, but important key qualities. One step I would also include prayer. Praying for wisdom and discernment will help us navigate these other steps.

Still, there are those rare times when our Heavenly Father places people in our lives to mentor — to show them the path to GOD and His wisdom. It’s not easy, especially when the responsibility for all staff are on our shoulders. But, if He clearly instructs us, then He will direct us in how to manage the extra burden — however long or short that may be.

Whether we manage a large corporation, small business, or our family, using wisdom to hire those who will work for us is essential.

May we hire wisely, my friends.
