Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 26:16

Is there a slacker in your life?

TODAY’S PROVERB: A slacker is wiser in his own eyes than seven people who answer sensibly. Proverbs 26:16

Resting is not necessarily a part of hard work. Figuring out complex ways to get out of working is not wisdom.

A slacker is more than someone who is lazy. They definitely avoid work, but they have no sense of direction and feel justified in this state. They have dreams and have the potential but don’t push through to accomplish them.

A wise person is always working in one form or another, even if they are resting, retired, or are physically unable to work. They may work on developing relationships. They may invent ways of being more efficient in their labors. They give of their time to others. They always seek the Lord for ways to live out their calling whatever the circumstances.

If there are obstacles, they seek to push through.

Slackers, on the other hand, seek their own agendas and feel they are more clever than the wise who diligently work. They live in the fog of their own indulgence. They live in the fog of their own paralyzing fears. They can justify even the most inane of behaviors and are eager to express them. They are always making excuses for being late, paying late, and lacking in accountability and responsibility.

Slackers produce no fruit. They have nothing to offer in this state. And, it’s a shame because many slackers have a good brain. We need every able body to work in God’s Kingdom.

Is there hope for a slacker or lazy person? Absolutely! If a slacker could see past their own needs to the needs of others, they would enter the path of deliverance and breakthroughs. And that would be a good thing.

May we diligently seek to work in wisdom, my friends.
