Are you intimidated by God’s “menu?”
TODAY’S PROVERB: He stores up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity. Proverbs 2:7
Imagine that. Our Heavenly Father stores up all the wisdom we’ll ever need. It’s waiting there for us. We don’t have to steal it, borrow it, or wish we had it. It’s His gift to us. He releases it not all at once, but bit by bit as we read His word. We simply have to choose to do it.
A dear friend commented the other day that viewing Proverbs like a menu was life-changing for her.
Have you ever been to restaurants where there are pages and pages of delicious and inviting options? It can be intimidating. Sometimes there are too many options. You feel overwhelmed. You just want to choose a peanut butter and jelly sandwich from the kid’s menu and call it a day.
Proverbs can be like that. All the sound wisdom stored up in thirty-one chapters can be so intimidating we want to move on and not even attempt to journey through them.
Let’s follow my friend’s analogy. Part of our intimidation with a huge menu is that we have to choose one thing. What will be the thing we enjoy eating the most? Most times, we don’t know.
What if we ate at that restaurant every day, rather than once in a while? If we could visit this restaurant everyday, we would probably try new foods more often, and on other days, know that those comforting foods are waiting for us. Either way the menu is no longer intimidating. It simply becomes the way to enjoy our freshly prepared meal each day — something to look forward to.
That’s the storehouse of wisdom our Father has for us. Each day, the Holy Spirit helps us select the meal we need. Sometimes it is an unexpected choice. Other times, the meal is a well-needed comfort. Once it’s served, we can dig in and enjoy the nourishment designed for us. All we have to do is grab our “menu” and read through it until we find today’s selection. And how amazing is that?
All we ever need is stored up for us to enjoy each day, my friends.
