Today’s Blog: Making our Heart Glad

TODAY’S PROVERB: Be wise, my son, make my heart glad, so I may answer anyone who taunts me. Proverbs 27:11, TLV

Let’s be clear, our children don’t have to follow our business or career footsteps to make our heart glad. Right? When we love what we do and know that we are walking the path GOD has designed us for, then shouldn’t we want that for our children as well? We should want His will in their lives, whatever that may be.

The first wise step our child can make is to seek their Heavenly Father as to where they belong in His Kingdom. Sometimes the LORD will make that clear to us, however, some of us are a little hardheaded when it comes what we think our kids should do.

These days a common prayer concern is for kids to come or return to the LORD. Unfortunately, statistics show that the majority of children who grow up going to church never return after they move from their parent’s home.

Interestingly enough, many of these young people and adults still believe in Yeshua — in Jesus — they just don’t feel they belong in an environment of the typical congregation. This should alarm us enough to make a concerted effort to find out where we are going wrong.

What if we have a more proactive approach to our prayers? Before they no longer walk in their destiny, we help our children discover it?

Why are our children not interested in church? I can speak to our experience with our daughter. She was not able to squeeze herself into what her father and I — and the congregation — believed she should be. Because of this, she stopped her attempts to explore what it could look like.

Looking for something real . . .

This generation is looking for something real. They must believe in what they do with all their heart or they are not interested. Most congregational resources like Sunday schools and youth groups are not providing the connection and challenge and opportunities for creativity they need.

Finding the balance of building an environment with both Biblical foundation and creativity takes prayer and work — hard work. It takes time and sacrifice. And each congregation will be unique to the young people who are there. So cookie-cutter approaches probably won’t work.

How will we know it’s working? We’ll know. Because there will be real fruit. Salvations. Deliverances. Healings. Breakthroughs.

The world and even some believers may taunt us because our young people walk this faith journey differently. But we can answer them with the fruit of their lives. And we’ll be glad.

May we sow into the most important harvest, my friends.
