Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 27:7

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Today’s Blog: Loathe Honeycomb?

TODAY’S PROVERB: One who is full loathes honeycomb, but to one who is hungry every bitter thing is sweet. Proverbs 27:7, TLV

Loathing honeycomb? Doesn’t seem possible. With everything we know about honey and what it represents, why? The sweetness and medicinal properties of honey were valued in ancient times, as well as today. Honey symbolized wisdom and peace and prosperity. All good things.

In the first part of this particular passage, those who are full actually loathe honey. Until recently, I thought the person was full on honey, but this verse doesn’t say so. It just says full.

What could make us so “full” that we wouldn’t crave the sweetness of wisdom or peace and prosperity?

We could be full of ambition. Anger. Greed. Fear. Hate. Doubt.

Ever wonder why some have no desire for GOD? It’s because they’re full of the world. Before we can ever “hunger” for the things of GOD, we have to stop “eating” the things of this world. As we walk this Wisdom Journey, we can dine on the food that nourishes. Not just a taste here and there, but a real meal. Regularly.

When we’re stuffed with soul-ish junk food it deadens our spiritual senses. It creates lethargy and even apathy. We make decisions that aren’t healthy for us emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. Because we’re full of junk.

When we dine on the spiritual honeycomb GOD has for us, we can dine on wisdom, hope, joy, and love. That’s a meal I’m hungry for, how about you?

Let’s crave the spiritual food that nourishes, my friends.
