Do we “weigh” our transgressions?
TODAY’S PROVERB: One who covers up his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13
It’s easy to default to “weighing” our transgressions against others. Most of us will never commit serious crimes or sins such as theft, murder, or adultery. The thing is, sin is sin. Large or small, when we cover up that transgression it will destroy us from the inside, and, eventually, hurt those around us.
In this world, especially this country, we have a lust for being right. We hate being wrong. What we hate has defined us.
The pursuit of being right causes fear — fear of being wrong.
Being right has become a possession to us — a possession we fiercely protect. This fear of being wrong produces hurtful, sometimes violent behaviors.
On the other hand, the pursuit of truth is the journey to a better understanding of our Heavenly Father. We don’t own the truth. The truth belongs to God. With His Holy Spirit within us, truth guards us and guides us.
As darkness invades our world, it’s easier to cover up transgressions. Because of that compulsion to be right, people can justify all sorts of sins, even theft, murder, and adultery. They simply push it into the darkness.
We, as believer in the Creator of the Universe and His Son, must continue to live in His Light. As uncomfortable as it may be, we must uncover our sins and operate in repentance so that grace and mercy abide in and through us.
“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
May His Light shine bright in and through us, my friends.
