Today’s Blog: What does pride look like?

TODAY’S PROVERB: A man’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will gain honor. Proverbs 29:23, TLV

Have you ever asked the LORD to show you something? I’m not talking about Him showing us His will or His heart, I hope we do that regularly. What I’m talking about is deeper insights into a matter that is giving you trouble.

During a time of corporate prayer at our home, I asked our Heavenly Father, “What does pride look like to You?” I saw a picture in my mind of an empty throne. The view was high above the throne. Suddenly, the view zoomed closer and closer. It began behind the ornate throne, then circled around to the front. I noticed something on the seat. As I drew nearer, I recognized what it was. It looked just like our dog, Paco’s poo-poo.

Yes. Our Father graphically illustrated how He sees pride. The throne of our heart has little doodies reigning there.

Okay, you have to admit, His answer was both gross and disturbing, yet a little funny.

Why does pride bring us down? Because pride asserts its own sovereignty over GOD’s. And our pride has as much value to anyone as poop.

And, inevitably, that stinky pride will get us into trouble.

Who? Me?

Being able to reside in shalom — peace — whatever our circumstance only happens when our Father reigns on the throne of our heart. The moment we replace Him with out desires, fears, and doubts we are saying those things are bigger than GOD. We’re saying we know better. And that stinks of pride.

When our Father reigns, there is peace. When we reign, there’s chaos. Stinky chaos. Not a difficult choice in principle, we just need to make the wise one.

May GOD sit on the throne of our hearts, my friends.
