Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 30:15a

Are there leeches in your life?

TODAY’S PROVERB: The leech has two daughters: “Give! Give!” … Proverbs 30:15a

A leech will suck on a body for as long as it is allowed until it has gorged itself and falls off. It is always searching for the next victim to get its fill of lifeblood. Yet, in some cultures today, leeches are used for medicinal purposes.

Do we take the “lifeblood” of others because we are so needy? Or, have we been “sucked dry” by someone who feels they need us?

Learning how to place boundaries in our life can help us keep the spiritual leeches at bay. Otherwise we’ll find ourselves exhausted and frustrated much of our life.

There are times when our Heavenly Father calls us to give sacrificially of our time and emotions. And other times our giving can actually cause harm or even sabotage His work in someone else’s life.

The Holy Spirit guides us in these matters as well as provide godly, wise advisers.

If we have a “leech” in our life, removing them compassionately is as important to the “sucker” as it is to the “suckee.” Whether a temporary situation or an ungodly attachment occurs, care for its removal is important.

May we be free of ungodly “leeches,” my friends.
