Are You Trying to Read the “Last Chapter” Rather than Living the Whole Book?
TODAY’S PROVERB: Who has gone up into heaven, and come down? Who has gathered the wind in the palm of His hand? Who has wrapped the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name and what is the name of His Son—if you know? Proverbs 30:4
As an author and a reader, I know that within each story there are “tells” of what is to come. The author doesn’t put these hints in to spoil the mystery or climax reveal, but to show the reader that the answer was before them the whole time. Otherwise, the reader might feel cheated that the reveal came out of nowhere—it wasn’t logical or believable.
This passage is one of GOD’s many tells. In this case, the tells of the coming Savior—the Messiah to the world.
I love these passages in the Old Testament—the TANAKH. And I never tire of finding new ones that point to Jesus—Yeshua.
What is always amazing is to realize that these tells were written thousands of years before their fulfillment in time. And what’s also amazing is that there are more tells that let us know there’s more to come.
And when those are revealed one day, we’ll see that it was right before us the whole time.
There is something to remember as well, we can’t read the final chapter before reading the whole book. Not only does it spoil the ending, but we don’t truly get the sense of all that the author intended for the reader.
In the case of His word, we don’t always know the last chapter — at least in our life. Where our story ends is in His arms, but there’s so much to live before that beautiful chapter.
It’s okay to get excited as we wait in anticipation for the end of this story, but don’t forget to live that story fully, my friends.
In this New Year, why not read the Bible in a new way. Rather than our only Bible reading be like a dictionary — where we look passages up — read the Bible like a novel, from beginning to end. The more we do this, the more we live the story. And why not, it’s our story, too.
May we live the Bible, my friends.
