Does Worry Make Us Forget?

TODAY’S PROVERB: My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my mitzvot. For length of days and years of life, and shalom they will add to you. Proverbs 3:1-2

One of our New Year’s Resolutions might be to take better care of our health. I know for hubby and I it is. Did you know, medical professionals say that stress from worry and anxiety speeds up the aging process and can make one prone to depression?

Professionals also say that “decision-worry” is one of the most stressful things in our life. What decisions cause us worry?

  • Poor decisions
  • Other’s poor decisions
  • Indecision
  • Even, things that might take our right away to decide

It seems what we’re really worried about is a lack of control. We want to be in control of our life. But when in history did that ever really work out well for humanity?

What are the worries of our heart? Our family? Our job? Our finances? Our home? Our future? What happens when we worry? When we itemize the “what ifs” and try to control the outcome? I think we forget. We forget our Heavenly Father’s teaching. We forget His Son’s teaching. We forget the wise counsel of the Holy Spirit. We step outside the sacred place with Him.

In this chapter there are four references (verses 2, 8, 16, 22) to what happens when we trust the LORD and walk in true wisdom–there is healing for our body, not just our spirit and soul.

When we seek God and His wisdom, and when that wisdom comes into our heart, it will be our pleasure to know and understand things. Pleasure and shalom–peace. I like that.

No question, it’s worrisome out there in this world. Inside us, however, we should seek to remember who He is and what He says. Then length of days will be added to our life. And, even better, His peace will be part of our life, every single day. And that’s a great thing!

May our days be filled with His shalom, my friends.
