Organized? Yikes!

TODAY’S PROVERB: She is not afraid of snow for her house, for her whole household is clothed in scarlet wool. Proverbs 31:21, TLV

The Proverbs 31 woman is proactive. Preparing for the winter is only one of the proactive measures she takes. This of course requires — are you ready — organization. Yikes!

As women, we are built to nest. Whether our home is grand or just a room, we want it to be all that it can be. When our nest is in disarray, it actually creates stress and anxiety — a sense that things are off, mostly because, well they are.

Psychologist Sherrie Bourg Carter explains in Psychology Today, “Messy homes and work spaces leave us feeling anxious, helpless, and overwhelmed. Yet, rarely is clutter recognized as a significant source of stress in our lives.”

When things are in order, there is less stress and we can plan more for the future. We have the uncluttered mind to think proactively and creatively.

By the way, my sisters, Proverbs 31 speaks of the lifetime achievements of a woman of valor, not today’s to-do list.

While being organized and accomplished are all wonderful things, we must remember that there are seasons in our life. Seasons where we can devote time to marvelous work, and seasons where we will focus on the needs of our family alone.

As we live this Wisdom Journey, we learn each day how to be who our Heavenly Father created us to be. Us. Not the supermodel mom who teaches Bible study and has five kids under six. Us.

We exercise wisdom, with the training tools of knowledge, discernment, and understanding. This is how we — man or woman — learn how to keep our house in order and make provisions for the unexpected. Our physical home and our spiritual home — our hearts.

Why do we seek to achieve these goals? To impress others? Well, hopefully not. Our goals should be to establish beauty and order and joy in our homes. A place where our family knows peace, guests are welcome, and our LORD resides with us.

And, our family is dressed warmly for the cold weather.

May we live and operate in the design of GOD’s wisdom, my friends.
