Today’s Blog: A Nightmare or Message?
TODAY’S PROVERB: When you walk, your step will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. Proverbs 4:12, TLV
Have you ever had one of those nightmares where you’re running from something or someone, but your legs won’t work? No matter how hard you pump those appendages, whatever is chasing you draws closer and closer. Yikes!
I used to hate those dreams. I felt helpless to whatever was trying to cause me harm. Until a few years ago.
Dream psychologists — yes, there is such a thing — say that this phenomenon is either emotional or physical. It can signify a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence. Or, it may reflect a condition called REM paralysis. Then there is the obvious, we’re running away from our problems.
Before you think I’m into all the dream whifty-ness, let’s see what the Bible says.
Indeed, God speaks once, even twice, yet no one perceives it. “In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, as they slumber in bed, then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction, in order to turn a man from his conduct and to cover a person’s pride.”
JOB 33:14-17, TLV
In this passage, Job explains why GOD must sometimes resort to dreams to convey a message we’re ignoring or not understanding. These verses and today’s proverb have been a comfort to me. When I have those “running” dreams, I go to my Heavenly Father and inquire of Him.
These dreams assure me that He is taking extra measures to let me know there is a misguided understanding or sin is hindering me from running the faith and wisdom journey. Which is pretty amazing when we think about it.
There will always be trials and tribulations in this world, but Yeshua has promised He has overcome the world. We win! He will give us everything we need to finish this race. Even dreams.
