Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 4:18

Today’s Blog: What’s in the dark?

TODAY’S PROVERB: The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until the full day. Proverbs 4:18, TLV

I’m an early riser. Being an early riser means I’ve enjoyed a lot of sunrises. The beauty of sunrises is that each one is unique. What I love about taking time to watch one is that I pause and watch as the world around me awakens and what was hidden in darkness is now revealed.

But, when I’m out alone taking my early morning constitutional — in the dark — waiting for the light of dawn isn’t quite as pleasant. A looming object or a scary sound is amplified in the dark. I guess what I’m saying is, I’m more likely to be frightened in the dark, when I leave the safety of my home.

Rather than darkness helping us to rest and revive, sometimes, darkness manifests an unhealthy fear — when we stray from the security of our “home.”

When we believe our path is fraught with dangers and obstacles, it will keep us motionless. Afraid to move forward. If we don’t shine the light of truth on the lie of fear, it will keep us from our destiny.

This world contains treasures and opportunities that belong to us. Gifts our Heavenly Father has given us to use in His kingdom. Wisdom turns on the light so we can seek and find those treasures and opportunities.

The illumination can be gradual. We identify what we first believed to be dangerous and frightening, and see it for what it really is. Then as the Light shines brighter, we find what our Father has given us and walk that path of righteousness in the confidence He wants us to have.

Walk through the fear . . .

Sometimes, we just need to walk through the fear with the faith that knows, He will light the way. Observant, yet trusting. Courage is walking it afraid.

The next time we are afraid of the “things that go bump in the darkness,” let’s seek the Light and follow that path of righteousness until the full day.

The Light has risen, my friends. May we step out of the darkness.
