Today’s Blog: Contentment is the Key

TODAY’S PROVERB: Drink water from your own cistern and running water from your own well. Proverbs 5:15, TLV

Sigh. We’re to the chapters that warn us about sexual seduction. These days it’s everywhere, isn’t it? It used to be that this type of temptation was relegated to outside the safety of our homes, but not anymore. Today, it is especially in our homes and has become a temptation to men, women, and even children.

As I thought about today’s proverb, it seemed to shine as a lighthouse in stormy seas, guiding us to a safe place. A place where we can resist all temptations — sexual or otherwise. That safe place is contentment.

Seduction and temptation can easily overtake us when we feel we are lacking something. When we feel we deserve something that is being kept away from us.

When we are faced with temptation — and we will be — if we are in the place of contentment and gratitude, it is much easier to resist.

Examining the lure . . .

Here’s something I do periodically — probably, should do it more — I examine that temptation’s lure. What in me is tempted by that sin? Indulging in food? Ignoring my responsibilities? Driving over the speed limit? Holding an offense against someone?

Taking that insight into my Secret Place and to my Father, will go a long way in helping me overcome more than temptations. It can help me with breakthroughs.

How cool would that be? That temptation we resisted will be the impetus for our breakthrough!

And, if we didn’t resist and succumbed to the temptation, all the more reason to take it to the Secret Place for repentance, forgiveness, and restoration.

When we only drink from our Father’s well of Living Waters, when we are grateful and content in our LORD, we can resist.

May we drink from the well of Living Waters, my friends.
