Today’s Blog: Easily Distracted?
TODAY’S PROVERB: The iniquities of a wicked man will ensnare him. The cords of his sin will hold him down. He will die for lack of discipline; led astray by his own great folly. Proverbs 5:22-23, TLV
Ever struggle with being distracted by people or circumstances? A few weeks ago, we discussed how distraction is being employed by various groups with positive and negative intents. If someone can distract us from our focus, then most likely, our goals won’t be met.
Is it possible to distract ourselves? Can we be led astray by our own foolish behaviors?
Today’s proverb clearly says, “Yes.”
While the first part of the proverb speaks of a wicked person, I feel safe in assuming that’s not anyone of us. However, we all struggle with “cords of sin.” Those areas where we give in to temptation and aren’t able to live a life of discipline.
“Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also get rid of every weight and entangling sin. Let us run with endurance the race set before us . . .”
HEBREWS 12:1, TLV
What are some of the cords or entanglements we can struggle with? Here are a few of mine:
- Fear
- Anger
- Offense
- Insecurities
These cords of sin definitely will entangle us and lead us astray. But what about the foolish things we do? Stubbornness, inconsistencies, lack of follow-through, laziness. These behaviors will also lead us off course and cause us to stumble. They also represent a lack of accountability and responsibility. Yikes!
The antithesis of this behavior is to stay open and sensitive to our Heavenly Father’s will and direction. To study His “map” for our life and stay the course He has designed for us — from the beginning of time. Living His word and walking in wisdom and gratitude.
May we stay the course, my friends.
