Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 5:22

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Are there sins that ensnare us?

TODAY’S PROVERB: The iniquities of a wicked man will ensnare him. The cords of his sin will hold him down. Proverbs 5:22

Man with mohawk. Are there sins that ensnare us? Are there burdens that weigh us down and immobilize us? If we have a heartbeat and are living in this world, most likely that answer is a yes.

If we want a clear word on the importance of seeking to know what those burdens and sins are in order to be set free, there’s probably no better chapter in the Bible than, Hebrews 12:1-17.

“Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also get rid of every weight and entangling sin. Let us run with endurance the race set before us, focusing on Yeshua, the initiator and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame; and He has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Sin can so easily ensnare us, but the Holy Spirit reveals those binding chains through conviction of our hearts. Not to condemn us or show us as evil, but to set us free!

When Yeshua ascended into heaven, He promised us that the Holy Spirit would enter us — be a part of us. It is the Spirit who oversees our sanctification process.

Now while staying with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father promised—which, He said, “you heard from Me. For John immersed with water, but you will be immersed in the Ruach ha-Kodesh [the Holy Spirit] not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5

We’ve been talking about how the Heavenly Father places His Light in us — to shine on the darkness (Proverbs 20:27 — Blog) . That’s the Holy Spirit’s conviction. When we pay attention to the Spirit’s conviction, we’re able to see and repent of sin so that no cords bind us, no weights of guilt and shame burden us.

Our Father wants us free to live out the destiny He has designed for us. So that we can run with endurance the race set before us. And that’s a good thing.

May we heed the Holy Spirit’s conviction, my friends, and be set free.
