Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 8:13

Do you place others on a pedestal?

TODAY’S PROVERB: To fear Adonai is to hate evil. I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and a perverse mouth. Proverbs 8:13

Why does the Creator of the Universe hate pride and arrogance? Pride and arrogance are the sins of idolatry–idols we worship over Him. And the scary part? We can be guilty of those sins.

They are the choices we make everyday when we honor ourselves for our achievements, gifts, and talents. When we place ourselves — or anyone else — on a pedestal in our heart.

It can be unintentional or intentional, but once we choose our own worship or someone we “idolize”, it’s a slippery slope to other behaviors that are offensive to Him. You see, if we are “god” — or we raise up other “gods” — then we can justify any behavior.

There’s nothing wrong with feeling good about our successes, especially those we’ve worked hard to achieve.

We can admire other people for their wisdom or talents. However, remembering that the foundation of those good feelings should be gratitude to our Heavenly Father — who is, BTW, the Creator of the Universe — is key.

Worshiping Him as the source of all we have and is what keeps Him on the throne of our heart, not us.

When we feel ourselves raising up our own pedestal of pride, just remember who created us. Who created the earth, moon, and sun. Who formed a child in its mother’s womb. That’s a great way to remember who we are and who He is. And that is a good thing.

May God reign in our heart as King, my friends.
