Gratitude + Discipline = Wisdom
TODAY’S PROVERB: Heed discipline and be wise, and do not neglect it. Proverbs 8:33, TLV
Sigh. Discipline is hard work. Have you noticed? Either we discipline ourselves, or God disciplines us. Sometimes we learn, and for some, life is a series of misguided choices and difficult repercussions. So, discipline is hard work, but worth it.

We might think that our ability to discipline ourselves has to do with willpower and self-control. It does. However, just as important is wisdom. Our choices to either maintain or neglect a disciplined life is probably one of the best gauges to determine where we are spiritually.
Oddly enough, I’ve also noticed something else. Gratitude plays a pivotal role in our decision to make wise choices. Yes, gratitude. When I’m tired or frustrated or scared or angry, it’s very difficult to be grateful. When I’m not grateful, I can allow myself to think I deserve to make unwise choices. Have you ever noticed that?
Hmm. So, just perhaps, one of the first choices to live a disciplined life is to choose an attitude of gratitude.
Next time we struggle with making a disciplined choice, try being grateful. Take a moment and thank our Heavenly Father for all He has done, all His Son has done, and all the Holy Spirit does for us each day.
It’s a great place to be, and makes the work of discipline easier.
May we live a grateful life, my friends.
