Are You Ready for the Adult Table?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts. Proverbs 8:34

Eight days into the new year. What new things is God showing us? I was reviewing some of my previous blogs for chapter 8 and I thought, “Goodness, I had forgotten that insight.” And, “that theme was just as relevant today as three years ago.”

Chapter 8 is filled with wisdom and reminders of who we could be. In chapter 7, there was a seducing woman who pursued the young fool. In chapter 8, we have wisdom who pursues the naive of all ages. So, one leads the inexperienced to pain and death, the other to wisdom and life.

Wisdom wants a commitment of readiness from us. I believe God wants us to pursue wisdom as a commitment.

At the beginning of this chapter wisdom calls to us, but at some point, she shouldn’t have to, right? If we are truly in a relationship with God and desire His wisdom, then shouldn’t we be watching and waiting for her?

How do we do this? We go to her “gates.” We open up Proverbs and see what wisdom has for us. We’re no longer children requiring wisdom to take our hand and tug us over to her gates, we’re ready to sit at the adult table and dine on the wisdom of the ages.

After decades of reading Proverbs each day, one would think I’ve squeezed out every drop of insights into wisdom. Not even close, my friends. There’s something either new or fresh or a relevant reminder there at Wisdom’s Gates. I just need to show up and enter. Will you join me?

May you show up at wisdom’s gates, and may you receive insights that will bless you, my friends.
