Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 8:6

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Today’s Blog: Listen closely.

TODAY’S PROVERB: Listen, for I speak excellent things, and my lips utter right things. Proverbs 8:6, TLV

One of the most important tools to a medical professional is the stethoscope. The instrument was invented by a French physician, René Laennec because he felt uncomfortable laying his ear against his female patients’ chests.

Over time, as the stethoscope improved, it allowed doctors to better diagnose diseases.

If we want to hear our own heartbeat and the condition of our heart –physically — we can use a stethoscope. But, how do we listen to the condition of our heart, spiritually?

Ironically, we do the opposite of what Dr. Laennec did, we get closer to our Heavenly Father. Our Father put into action our redemption through His Son, Jesus. He imparted to us His Holy Spirit to counsel and teach us. Sometimes, I think we forget the Abba –the Daddy. We worship and praise Jesus, but do we spend time with Dad?

As I think about the stethoscope, I wonder, is the Bible our spiritual stethoscope? It amplifies His voice. It can reveal heart conditions that need attention. Yes, I like that analogy.

How is our Heart Health?

This passage tells us that wisdom will speak excellent things to us. We respond by sharing those right things to others. Or, we make decisions that are sensible and wise. But, in order to do those wonderful things, we need to listen. Take the time to listen.

As every day life becomes more and more complex and busy, it’s difficult to “listen” every day. Remember, Proverbs is a “quick bite” of power-packed nutrition for the day when we don’t have time for a “full meal.”

So, listen closely, my friends.
