Today’s Blog: Don’t follow the butterflies
TODAY’S PROVERB: …calling to those who pass by, who go straight on their way… Proverbs 9:15, TLV
Have you ever been distracted by someone or something? Did that distraction redirect you because it seemed more interesting? Or you forgot what you were doing before you were “called” away? As I age, I’ve noticed that my own random thoughts can even distract me from tasks or even conversations. I call this my “chasing butterfly” moments.
Distractions can yank even the most dedicated person off-track.
Some may think distractions won’t ultimately interfere with our direction. But, diversions, especially those sent by the enemy of our souls, can interrupt and even redirect us from the path our Father created for us.
Did you know there are discipline measures for children using distraction for the sole purpose of redirecting a child’s behavior? Where “chasing the butterflies” is useful to parents? For example, distracting a toddler from dumping their toys in the living is possible by asking them to go into another room to get a book for you to read with them. Distraction is effective.
In today’s proverb the foolish woman attempts to distract those on the straight path. She calls out to them. Then she continues with enticements meant to redirect them to her path.
How do we keep from distractions?
How do we keep from these distractions? Clearly knowing and understanding which direction we’re headed — because our Father has shown us — helps us determine when we’re off course. Employing wisdom and discernment can alert us to well-meaning folks who think their idea of walking your journey is better.
When we walk in the way of understanding (Proverbs 9:6), we are less likely to allow a distraction to stall us or take us off course. When we fail from time to time, going to the Father for restoration and renewal sets our feet back on the firm path (Psalm 119:133).
Distractions don’t have to keep us from the straight path. Because, we are guided by the Creator of the Universe who loves us.
May we stay straight on the way, my friends.
