Are we stumbling in the darkness?
TODAY’S PROVERB: The way of the wicked is like darkness. They do not know what makes them stumble. Proverbs 4:19
This may seem like a Blink* proverb. I almost moved on myself this morning. But, as our Heavenly Father does from time to time, He pulled me back, gave me a picture in my head, and one sentence that open up an insight for me to unpack.
The natural thought is to think, “We’re not counted among the evil because of our acceptance and faith in Jesus’ blood atonement.” And that’s very true.
However, wicked is defined as someone who is evil or morally wrong. To be morally wrong is to violate the principles of right behavior. We can get stuck on the evil, but to have morally wrong behaviors is possible for us, unfortunately.
Actually, the words that jumped out at me were: darkness and stumble. Stumbling we can all identify with. I know I’m dealing with an area that gives me great consternation. I can’t seem to find lasting victory. Sigh. My weight.
If I can’t see what it is that I’m stumbling over, then there is a darkness hiding it.
A few weeks ago I wrote a blog about our Father placing His Light in us (Proverbs 20:27). That Light can drive out the darkness in those concealed areas so we can see what we need the Father to deal with.
If we continue to stumble over the same issues, His Light is there to reveal the roots of that. Imagine that root being destroyed and having long-term victories. How great would that be?
Today, let’s ask the LORD to show us any dark areas that cause us to stumble. More than anything, He wants us to be set free so we can run and not stumble (Proverbs 4:12).
May His Light shine on those dark areas, my friends.

Thanks to Dr. Raleigh Washington for the great analogy.
