Blessed be my Lord!
Day by day He bears our burdens—
the God of our salvation! Selah Psalm 68:20[19]

Most likely, this psalm — written by David — was a psalm of ascent. Ascent as in walking up to the Tabernacle in worship. This psalm has a wide range of themes, from conquering God’s enemies, defending widows and orphans, to remembering the Israelites in the desert, to warnings to kings of the nations, etc. But today’s verse, and many others in this psalm, is about comfort.

Last week a dear man died of COVID, Rabbi Scott Sekulow. Each morning since, as I pray I put myself in his widow’s and daughter’s place and can’t even imagine what it would be like. So, I pray. Imagine my delight that I could pray this passage for her and her daughter. Then I prayed this whole chapter.

A father of orphans, defender of widows,
is God in His holy dwelling.
God settles the lonely in a home. (vss. 6-7a)

Isn’t that just like our Heavenly Father. Giving us what we need to minister to others. That perfect verse. Words from His heart. A shower of comfort or insight or understanding.

Today, let’s continue to pursue God’s word with a fresh sense of renewal and joy. Who knows what He will show us!
