When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you,
or through the rivers,
they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned,
nor will the flame burn you. Isaiah 43:2, TLV

A Love Letter.   Sigh. Today’s verse is part of a chapter I love for several reasons. First, because it is a “love letter” from the LORD to Israel. At a time when the letters to Israel weren’t very upbeat, this chapter reminds Israel of how deep His love is for them.

But now, thus says ADONAI [the LORD]—
the One who created you, O Jacob,
the One who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you,
I have called you by name, you are Mine. (43:1)

The letter comforts Israel and reminds them that they are redeemed and called, and most important, they are His.

The second reason why I love this chapter, especially today’s verse is because when my father died and I was so overwhelmed, I wondered how I would ever be “right” again. The sensation was like when I tried surfing and was spun around under a wave. I couldn’t tell what was up or down.

When we returned from Missouri to our home in Delaware. A man who was like a second father to Bob and I, gathered me into his arms and prayed this verse over me. I bawled my eyes out, but it comforted me—centered me. Let me know that my Heavenly Father knew exactly what I was feeling and that He loved me.

I love verses like that, don’t you? They resonate into both our spirit and soul. That’s why today’s verse means so much to me. It reminds me just how much my Heavenly Father loves and cares about us—me.

What love letter from the LORD resonates both your spirit and soul when you’re overwhelmed? Please share.

Shabbat Shalom!
