So let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we don’t give up.  Galatians 6:9, TLV

Don’t Give Up!   We’ve tried and tried and tried, but we can’t seem to get a breakthrough. Not for us, but in trying to make a difference in others on behalf of our Savior. With each snide or cruel remark aimed at our heart, we peek over our shield to respond in love. Yet, some get through, especially when we forget our helmet. Those hurtful words tumble in our brain over and over, trying to undermine our honest pursuits to help.

Therefore, whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good toward all—especially those who belong to the household of faith. (vs. 10, TLV)

Are there times when the Holy Spirit says, “Enough. For now.” Yes. Because sometimes the other person needs to journey another path. Or, if we find ourselves straining to not fight back or the words won’t stop recycling themselves in our brain, perhaps it is time for us to step back and allow the Holy Spirit to do some housecleaning in our hearts, then healing.

One of the worse things we can do is to dabble in self-righteousness or justification for our responses or attitudes or behaviors.

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he is fooling himself. Rather let each one examine his own work. Then he will have pride in himself alone and not in comparison to anyone else. (vss. 3-4, TLV)

We may have to step away for a season, but that doesn’t mean we give up praying for these souls. By keeping our hearts open, should the Holy Spirit alert us that the time has come to reengage and/or reconnect, we will come with a clean heart.

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught doing something wrong, you who are directed by the Ruach [the Spirit], restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness—looking closely at yourself so you are not tempted also. (vs. 1, TLV)

So, don’t give up, because one day that stubborn harvest may be reaped. And there will be a celebration for eternity!
