Therefore be imitators of God, as dearly loved children; Ephesians 5:1, TLV

Ah, yes. Let’s finish this sentence shall we? “… and walk in love, just as Messiah also loved us and gave Himself up for us as an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant aroma.” (vs. 2)

Chapter 5 is all about living a life of love and sacrifice. To be imitators of our Messiah. That’s not an easy life to live, is it? To be conscious of others and to take steps to serve and love. Most of the time, I have so much on my plate I’m wondering how I will meet all my commitments.

I’ve noticed something I don’t like about myself. When I’m so busy the only person I think about is me. Yes, my commitments are important to other people, because if I’m late on a deadline, I adversely affect their commitments. Problem is, that’s not what today’s passage is about.

So pay close attention to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise. (5:15, TLV)

That is the key, I think. To pay attention. If I’m only working on my To-Do lists, how will I reach out to others? Maybe get up a few more minutes earlier to be able to accomplish more than my to-dos, but to help others in some way. Simple things. Next batch of soup make a bit more and give to a neighbor. Sending a card to someone God places on my heart. Things like that.

Things that step outside my need-to-dos and reflect more of His love for me so that I can love others. What are some of the things you do? I love new ideas!
