Open your mouth on behalf of those unable to speak, for the justice of all who are destitute. Proverbs 31:8, TLV

Is it Time to Add Your Voice?   Proverbs 31 is not just for women! There seems to be an indelible female identity for this chapter. The first nine verses contain revolutionary and practical instructions for compassion, leadership, and advocacy — for those innocents who cannot speak for themselves.

One more thing: single men praying for a “Proverbs 31” wife? A word of caution. These verses depict a woman’s lifetime of achievements, not her daily to do list.

Today’s verse reminds me of a few years ago when my husband and my mom had heart episodes within weeks of each other. While my mother, especially, was in the hospital, I had to be her voice.

It meant an incredible investment of time — spending nights in the hospital with little sleep — but, by being there all the time, I was able to speak up for her. Sometimes I got the look — you know, “what does she want, now.” Nevertheless, I had to swallow my fear, polite sensitivities, and pride and keep at it.

But I guess the point about being the voice? I had to be there — be present — to do that. Be aware. I had to know and understand the problem.

Another voice

The LORD sent an incredible blessing of a young woman who worked at the hospital and added her voice to mine. A voice with credible understanding and experience. She was able to do even more.

When our Heavenly Father shows us an injustice or neglect — intentional or not — we can pray to have Him show us how to help. Generally, if He shows us, there’s a reason. That’s what this young woman did for my mom.

Her voice made a difference in another’s wellbeing.

When we add more voices — which are respectful and credible — we can make a difference. What an honor that will be. Especially at this time.

May we be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, and add our voice to those already speaking up, my friends.

When have you been a voice for someone? When have you added your voice to others? If this blog was helpful, please share. Thanks, and God bless!
