Daily Word: John 15:12

“This is My commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you …” John 15:12, TLV

Many still believe that Jesus ushered in the “doing away with” the Law. Nope. What He did was fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). Fulfilled it so that we redeemed children of His Father would not suffer the penalty of “missing the mark” (chata=sin/missing the mark) when it came to the Torah. Yeshua did that for us.

What Jesus did usher in was the fulfillment of the prophecy of a Covenant that would include not only the Jewish people (Jeremiah 31:31ff), but the nations who would be grafted into the Olive Tree (Romans 11:11-24).

You are not to take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am Adonai. Leviticus 19:18, TLV [Emphasis Mine]

This is the continuity of our GOD. The proof of His omniscience. And the evidence of His love for us. Our Father knew we couldn’t do it on our own. The only way was to send His Son, His only Son (John 3:16-18) to redeem the condemned — those who missed the mark.

The Bible begins at Genesis and ends at Revelation. To say we only focus on the “red letters” is at best unwise, at worst, an affront to our Father and His Son, our redeemer.

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. (vs. 10, TLV)

Jesus is our perfect example of how to live out our faith in love. How to place the proper balance between faith and works (James (Jacob) 2:18-20).

We’ll work to emulate that example for the rest of our days. But it is a work worth doing.
