“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 TLV

We are Lights, Too!    Today we’re revisiting Yeshua’s Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5-7), with a familiar verse. While this is a simple passage, its depth is both important and challenging. We know that Jesus called Himself the Light of the World, but us? Are we also a light to the world?

“Yeshua spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The one who follows Me will no longer walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12, TLV)

Yes! When we follow our Messiah and Savior, we no longer walk in darkness, but have the light of a new life because we have been born again of the Spirit (John 3:5).

Okay, so we carry His light of life, what do we do with it?

“In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (vs. 16, TLV)

Most of us can talk up a good story and testimony, but do we live it? Does Yeshua’s light shine so brightly folks around us need shades? And I mean living it without words. Do our quiet good works make a difference in our part of the world? Or do we grab the glory by pointing out what we’ve done?

Actually, it really is liberating to not get credit for our own efforts for our Heavenly Father. Over the years, I’ve discovered how exhausting and disappointing striving to take credit for my good deeds really is. Exhausting! All that effort, striving to accomplish those works is a far better investment of our time and emotions.

Let’s not cover our works for the LORD with the “bushel” of our taking credit but let them shine on their own and glorify our Father.

Until tomorrow, please continue your prayers for Israel and the innocents caught in this war. God bless and Shabbat Shalom!
